The Victorian Probian
The Victorian Probian is the journal of the Probus Association of Victoria. It is published 5 times a year and is delivered to well over 400 Clubs – that’s some 41,000 Probus members.
The Probian is exclusive to PAV member Clubs, and is a means of keeping members abreast of committee news. It also includes information on PSPL management matters.
The Probian is also a means whereby readers are kept abreast of Club news, their anniversaries, highlights and activities.
Club committees will also find it a source of information and ideas for Club activities, outings and tours through both the articles submitted by members and from advertising content. Your Club is invited to submit articles, but the editor reserves the right to edit content where necessary.
A message from Sandra Grove, your Probian Editor
The February edition of the Victorian Probian is published and should be in the hands of clubs anytime now. Thank you to all those clubs that contributed reports and articles.
The closing date for the April edition is Monday 12th March. Your editor is now looking for your club's contributions recording its latest activities. Please ensure that contributions are received by this date as late items cannot be included. Please also read the guidelines below dealing with preparation of your text and the quality of your pictures.
Please note that we now have a “Club News” section on this website and some contributions will be displayed here rather than being ‘out of date’ for the next edition.
Photographs: There is some concern over the quality of contributed photos. To be suitable for publication all photos must be top quality and no newspaper cuttings or photocopies can be accepted.
Emailed images are invited, but only high resolution or large images sent as jpg attachments are suitable. If contributors have a problem with emailing photos, please send them in hard copy to the PAV PO Box address – but please continue to email any text. It is important that reports are from recent activities and not from months prior to the previous Victorian Probian edition, as space is limited.
Some hints for good photography: Try to make your photos interesting – catch members in informal situations, make sure your subjects are smiling and happy, avoid posing a line of people in front of a tour bus or building, avoid harsh sunlight and dappled shadows which cause problems with your exposures, save your photos in a high resolution and take multiple shots of groups to give you a choice for the best image. Please ensure that the names of small groups of people in the photographs are included.
We would also appreciate your jokes, poems and recipes, so please send them to us.
